Part One: The Only Diet I’ve Ever Enjoyed

So this is part one of a small series I’m doing on the candida diet, what it did for me, and what it can do for you (if you’re interested, of course).

What is the candida diet, you ask?

It’s essentially an anti-inflammatory diet that helps to get rid of some of the candida overgrowth happening in your gut. Not all candida is bad – it actually helps with digestion and absorbing nutrients – but it can cause problems when it gets out of control.

Candida is fed mostly by sugar and certain grains, so it makes sense that overgrowth can easily happen in the United States with all the processed junk we have around. This diet cuts out almost all sugar, alcohol, grains, caffeine, and dairy.
From what I’ve found, everyone does it a little differently though.

Sounds kinda torturous, right?

So why would you want to do it?

Diets definitely aren’t my thing. I mean, I try to eat healthy and fresh, but I’ve never been a fan of diet trends or essentially starving yourself for months at a time. However, I am all about using food as an energy source and finding ways to eat healthier and get even more of that energy from what I consume. I wanted to give this a try and give my gut a break from the havoc I wreaked on it over the holidays last year.

Plus, I looked up some of the symptoms of candida overgrowth, and it all came together:

  1. Constant cravings for sugar and processed carbs
  2. Anxiety and depression
  3. Mood swings
  4. Inability to focus and brain fog
  5. Digestive issues
  6. Low sex drive
  7. Exhaustion

And that’s just to name a few.
I realize that a lot of these symptoms are what most assume are the result of being a stressed out adult.
But my thing is this – what if it didn’t have to be that way? Wouldn’t you try to make that change?

I did the candida diet for a month and a half at the beginning of this year, and it was a struggle. However, I’m SO happy I did it. It gave me my energy back, cleared up my skin for the first time in 12 years (seriously), and helped motivate me to accomplish some awesome goals this year. Plus, I’m eating better than I ever have before.

Next Thursday, I plan to write about some specific diet steps and which foods to eat and avoid when you’re fighting a candida overgrowth.
