“Often, creativity is blocked by our falling in with other people’s plans for us. We want to set aside time for our creative work, but we feel we should do something else instead. As blocked creatives, we focus not on our own responsibilities to ourselves, but on our responsibilities to others. We tend to think such behavior makes us good people. It doesn’t. It makes us frustrated people. The essential element to nurturing our creativity lies in nurturing ourselves.”
-The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron
No piece of writing has spoken to me so directly in years. As a blocked creative, I’ve become a frustrated person – a person a former creative self wouldn’t be able to recognize.
We’re all creatives. We’re all artists.
If you feel blocked from your true potential, take a step back and assess why. Ask yourself if you are nurturing yourself in the way you need to this week.
Also, buy this book – “The Artist’s Way”. (This is not a paid advertisement, haha.) I’m only on week two, but it’s already opened my eyes and heart to my struggles in the creative process.
Have a great week, my friends! Enjoy the sunshine. 🙂
